5 Tips for Community Safety

It’s great to have a community thriving full of people, but it can be tough to be responsible for the safety of your residents. There are a lot of decisions to make and steps to take toward keeping a community secure and it’s important to take protection seriously.

5 Tips for Community Safety orna security

Here are 5 steps you can take toward community safety:

  1. Disperse Safety Information: It’s important that your residents are prepared for anything, and it’s your responsibility to prepare them. You should be dispersing safety information to not only your tenants, but also your staff. Send out safety pamphlets or hold community safety meetings. You should be putting all staff through safety training and background checks, as well as monthly safety meetings.
  2. Install basic improvements: Increase lighting, keep public areas well maintained and reduce the risk of injury on the property. If there’s an area that is always slippery by your pool, use slip resistant products or replace it with a material that’s easier to walk on when wet. Safety is about not only reducing crime, but also reducing the likelihood that someone will get hurt.
  3. Secure All Public Areas: Install gates at the entrance to the community and put in camera areas throughout the grounds. Signs stating the existence of cameras and security systems can help as an added deterrent to crime. Residents need to be comfortable spending time in more in just their homes, and securing all public areas will help them feel safe.
  4. Use Technology: With all the advances in technology, control of community safety is becoming easier and easier. Install cameras, invest in cutting-edge security systems, and give residents entry cards to the community and amenities in it that can be disabled and even tracked by computers. Use modern technology to your advantage.
  5. Hire Security: Sometimes, it’s easier just to let someone do it for you. Hire a security company that uses the latest in safety technology and takes time in selecting the perfect guards for your community. Residents will feel safer and be happier in a secure environment.

The safety of your residents and staff should be a high priority and it’s an important responsibility to have. Community security may seem like a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be. Use these tips to make it easier for you to understand and act on what needs to be done in order to keep a community secure.
